QT 19

On carbon-di-oxide overdrive..

Can we change the gear, to the lower gear, and instead of 'fighting over the seat' take actions in our  personal lives to reduce our individual carbon footprints?

I have described my take inThe 4R Experiment. Please record yours here in the comments. You may also like to connect this website to your circle of influence.

World Environment Day, 2013

5th June 2013 was designated as world environment day.

We at Raja Rajeshwarinagar I Care, in Bangalore, co-organized an event called WUCU - Wake Up, Clean Up Bangalore. The event brought together on one side the citizens of RR Nagar who produce solid waste, with the focus on bulk producers like flats, hospitals, schools and colleges, hostels, hotels, malls and food joints, marriage halls, large traders etc etc, and on the other the authorities in local governance like the local corporator, the Supdt Engineer, the Health officer, etc. We had also invited the solution providers for converting wet waste into compost or gas, and dry waste recyclers so that very little goes into the land fills.

Presentations were made by the citizens groups, solution providers and the authorities towards working together to reduce/eliminate burdening and viciating the environment.

The event was hosted by Mind Tree at their beautiful premises in our neighborhood and it culminated into planting 5 trees at their premises.

The evening was meaningfully spent.

In the meanwhile I saw this film on the site of Karma Tube, and thought I should share it on this blog.

A film by Chris Jordan.
Video from KarmaTube

Hope the film could stir something inside. Take Action.

IIC Day Celebration at Panchgani

For, Charity Begins at Home..

IIC Day is designated for every week end. During the National Team Meet at Asia Plateau, Panchgani from 24th to 26th May, 2013, I learnt from Zooni Dash, one of the coordinators of the Interns at IofC, that every one at the campus does wear IIC t-shirt or the badge every Friday, but recently the Interns at the Campus (they are a bunch of very committed youth from India, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Sudan  South Sudan and Latvia) decided to hit the road in Panchgani to clean it up.

Yes, charity begins at home, and we have a lot to learn from these youngsters.

Here are some pictures shot by Ingres (from Latvia), and sent to me by Zooni.

Aswini from Hyderabad has suggested to make the IIC day as a permanent page where in all the active members can showcase their IIC activities regularly.
I know work is happening in many centers. Jamshedpur and Lucknow are doing exemplary works. I request the 'doers' in these cities, and elsewhere, to send us stories on their works with pictures so that we could publish the same here for all to get motivated. Please send the material to dilip(dot)patel(at)gmail(dot)com
